Stephen F.
Weiss
Orthopedic Surgeon
PMRI Medical Director
Dr. Stephen Weiss was born and raised in New York City. He received his
B.A. from Columbia University and his M.D. from New York University Medical
Center in 1968. He did his internship and residency at the Hospital for
Joint Diseases, Orthopedic Institute, in New York City, and served as
chief resident at Stanford University from 1972 to 1973. He also served
as a major in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1975.
In 1976, Dr. Weiss started
his own private orthopedic practice in Rockford, Illinois. His practice
has included all aspects of orthopedic surgery, including treatment of
hands, joints (including replacements), and spines. He is board certified
in orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery and is licensed to practice medicine
in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Dr. Weiss's current professional
interests include sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and industrial
injuries. He has privileges at Swedish-American, St. Anthony's, and Rockford
Memorial Hospitals, and Rockford Ambulatory Care Surgery Center.
He was a director of the Winnebago
County Medical Society, and an adjunct assistant professor with the University
of Illinois School of Medicine-Rockford. Dr. Weiss was the team physician
for the Boylan Catholic High School for almost a decade and is a founder
and Financial Director of Rockford's Sports Coalition, a volunteer group
that raises money to help finance high school sports for the Rockford
School District.
Dr. Weiss has conducted independent
medical examinations since 1995 and, as PMRI's Medical Director, is available
to answer questions concerning general IME issues.
